Sixth Formers preparing for a triathlon have taken part in intense circuit training as part of their fitness regime. An instructor from Corby Sports Centre led the session with our Year 12 students.
PE teacher Mr Clasper said: ‘The circuit was targeted at enhancing muscular fitness with cardiovascular, anaerobic and aerobic exercise. It is similar to when they will do a triathlon, there will be periods of intense work with short periods of rest in between.
‘Previous sessions have included spinning, fitness testing, hill runs, gym work and runs around Eyebrook Reservoir. This triathlon option has proved very popular as we started with more than 20 students and now have 34.
Today’s session involves a great deal of core work targeting the abdominals and lower back. We intersperse this with speed and endurance work as triathlon is a nightmare to train for. You have to be big, strong and powerful and also have speed and endurance. The students are doing brilliantly, they acquit themselves fantastically and really work hard. Their fitness has definitely improved over the weeks as they are now working harder for longer.’
