The Young Enterprise teams this year are all busy selling their products as part of a nationwide competition to encourage young traders. Each of the teams have sourced or are making products which they are selling at trade fairs and events including the forthcoming Christmas market. Each person has been assigned a role and the teams are headed up by a managing director.
The students have to design their own marketing campaigns and balance the finances and stock levels. They compete in local and regional heats and prizes are given for achievement in categories including best product, marketing and website.
Already one of our teams has won a best sales and marketing award. Team Fusion are selling reusable tops that convert drinks cans into bottles, keeping foreign products out and the fizz in. They received their award at the Wellingborough Trade Fair and have also sold their product at Asda in Corby. The tops retail at £1.99 for one or £5 for three.
Will Bell, sales director for Fusion said: ‘We have sold about 100 to 150 so sales are going well. We started with the idea of picture frames but that didn’t work out so we went back to the drawing board and ordered these from a small family business in Leeds. Our first trade fair at Stamford was not a success. After we changed our product the next trade fair at Wellingborough went really well. We are confident that we will sell our first consignment, hopefully before Christmas and then we will restock.’
Team Fusion is headed up by Aston Chapman. The other team members include Will Bell, Tayla Donovan, Poppy Dennis, Owen Stanger, Rebecca Bellew and Aidan Coull.
The other Brooke Weston Young Enterprise teams and their products will be featured in future news stories.
