Year 9 student, Vicki-Louise Sherwin raised more than £2,600 for Lakelands hospice at a recent event attended by Downton Abbey star, Brendan Coyle. Vicki-Louise and her mother organised the event which was held at the Best Western hotel and attended by more than 200 music lovers. Mr Coyle, who is a patron of the hospice, posed for photographs and signed autographs for fans.
Vicki-Louise said: ‘He was really nice and complimentary to me and all the acts. He had photos with people and signed autographs for donations to the hospice. He made a speech to say that he would be working alongside me to do more fundraisers for the hospice. He is a nice celebrity.’
As well as Vicki Louise, the acts included the Rockingham Primary School Choir, Deep Roots Tall Trees Choir who recently sang alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, singer Charlie Botting, and a four piece band. Money was also raised through a raffle and now Vicki-Louise is already planning more fund-raising for Lakelands.
She said: ‘Everyone said what a professional show it was. We are planning one in December at Rockingham Forest Hotel and Brooke Weston Choir have already agreed to take part. We are also thinking of doing something with my little brother’s primary school choir.
‘I am also singing at two events for Lakelands on the same evening which is probably going to be pretty challenging, one is when I will be judging a choir competition then I am going to be singing for Light Up a Life for the hospice where they light up their Christmas tree so I will have to prepare some songs for that.
‘Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the show, including the mayor and mayoress and carnival court, but special thanks go to Brendan for taking time out of his busy filming schedule to attend. It was brilliant!’
The next fund-raiser will be on Sunday 14th December.
