Congratulations to the Year 8 boys’ rugby team who have started off this season in style playing very strongly against some tough opposition.
The team, which also included four debutant players from Year 7, played opponents from Bishop Stopford and a combined team from Lodge Park and Corby Business Academy. Our team scored decisively in the first few minutes of each of their games and the final score; a 20-all draw against Bishop and a win against the combined team was a credit to their playing skills.
Try-scorers included Jeshurun Peprah, Tommy Simmonds and Harry Marshall. Afterwards Mr Clasper said: ‘We played Bishop Stopford who are very strong. We were 20 points to 10 up with about three minutes to go. They scored a try, our lads thought that they had won it so everything was hunky dory, we kept playing and at the very last moment of the game Bishop scored a try so it was 20 points all.
'During our second game against a combined Lodge Park and CBA team we were 20 points to nil up after the first 4 or 5 minutes. Then the other team scored a couple of tries and we beat them, so we won one and drew one. It wasn’t a tournament, it was more of a round robin where we get together and promote rugby and it took place at Kettering rugby club. It was awesome because it was the first match the boys had played this year. They did really well and they brought their camaraderie and spirit from last season through to this year.’
The team comprised: Reiss Johnson, Sean Guerin, Archie Hanlon, Ethan Tait, Luke Twisteton-Roche, Harry Gardner, Tommy Simmonds, Harry Marshall, Jaigo Davis, Jeshurun Peprah and Luke Bissell from Year 8. The Year 7 players were Dominick Taylor, Ben Tompkins, Matt Tilley and Ben York.
