Tributes were paid to the vision and support of our founder, Mr Hugh de Capell Brooke, and his family during this year’s Prize Giving when hundreds of awards were handed out to our highest achieving students.
Principal Trish Stringer said: ‘It was thanks to his generosity that enabled this school to be created. It was always Hugh’s desire that the school would offer an educational experience that was outstanding in every way. He was tireless in ensuring the school was built, and so it was in September 1991 that 29 teachers and 300 children came through the doors of Brooke City Technology College for the first time.
'We will never forget the moment when the Brooke Weston family began. Later investment, from the Weston Foundation some months after we opened, saw our name changed to Brooke Weston CTC, but our founding principles, the vision of Hugh de Capell Brooke will never have changed.
‘He insisted that the education offered here should ensure a lifetime of opportunity for all students and we have embarked on that mission tirelessly from the first day. Without a doubt Hugh was an inspirational man, a challenging supporter with a generosity of spirit who always looked for and demanded the best in everyone. The family have always been very generous supporters of Brooke Weston and, until his health began to fail, Hugh was a regular visitor. It was with immense pride that we knew how much Brooke Weston mattered to Hugh.
‘We now have provided an outstanding education for many thousands of students over the past 23 years and we hope that we will continue to do so for many years to come. Later this evening we will be awarding the Hugh de Capell Brooke award which the family have so generously donated in his memory, a lasting legacy of an inspirational man, and we hope that Brooke Weston will go on to make Hugh and his family very, very proud.
'I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal thanks to the family, and to also thank them on behalf of every student, past, present and future at Brooke Weston, for their unfaltering support over many, many years.’
