Three Year 13 girls are all looking to pursue science or medical careers after receiving their excellent A Level results:

Rebecca Hearne will be taking a gap year that includes a three-month work placement at Chester Zoo before she goes onto study bio-veterinary science at the University of Surrey. She gained A grades in biology and psychology and a B grade in chemistry. She said: ‘Bio-veterinary science is more about looking at the theory side than the practical, looking at disease, disease management and pathology. I found the application for the work experience online and was successful at interview so I will be working with elephants and rhinos.’

Lina Sytchenko will be studying medicinal chemistry with a year in industry as part of her degree course after gaining A grades in biology and chemistry plus a B in psychology. She said: ‘I have always wanted to work in the pharmaceutical industry, it is always something that has interested me. I want to be making drugs and finding out what causes diseases and try to cure them. It is a four-year course that ends in a Masters. Chemistry is always the subject that I found the hardest but it is also the one that I found the most interesting so I really like to work at it, it is my favourite subject.’

Olivia Mawby is planning a nursing career after gaining Distinction *s in sport and ebusiness plus a B at English language A Level. She was offered an unconditional place on the adult nursing course at the University of Bedford. She is also about to complete her training as a special constable after attending the first summer school for recruits. She said: ‘I have always wanted to be part of the public services. I wanted to be a paramedic initially then I applied for nursing. Then I signed up for the specials and the same day I got accepted to be a nurse as well. It is a three year course starting in March. The Specials training has also been really intense and I take my final test tomorrow for that.’

More A Level success stories will be posted next week
