Year 10 students from Brooke Weston had the opportunity to attend the Northamptonshire Connexions Employability Skills Show recently. They enjoyed blissful weather whilst engaging with the unique chance to try out numerous activities.
They got thoroughly stuck in to the activities such being able to handle animals and insects and looking at animal welfare, as well as DNA testing and seeing a 3D printer at work and talking to scientists about its future applications. This was an incredible occasion for students to talk to employers and course leaders about jobs and careers, as well as being able to try out aspects of the work they could be involved in.
Connexions organised this event and aimed it at Year 10 students across the county, as a way to get students to consider a wider range of careers and jobs so that they would be in a strong position to make their future options. The event showcased vocational learning pathways and careers through interactive and hands-on activities to motivate and inspire students.
Students experienced both indoor and outdoor skills including: healthcare, engineering, construction, motor vehicle, catering, hair and beauty, animal care, horticulture, science and much more, provided by Northampton, Moulton and Tresham Colleges, the NHS and other employers. It was a fantastic day full of unexpected surprises, and the students came away full of excitement about their future prospects and possibilities.
