Students from Years 7 and 9 took part in quick fire quizzes at the annual Big Book Quiz. The event, organised by Nikki Evans, librarian at host school Sir Christopher Hatton attracts teams from across the county and Milton Keynes and the rounds are always hotly contested.
This year the winner of the first Northamptonshire Children’s Choice Book Award was announced. Spy Society by Robin Benway had been in the lead but a last minute vote by students attending the event pushed David Walliams’s Demon Dentist into the top spot.
Librarian Jamie Jones accompanied the students. He said: ‘The event consisted of six rounds of 20 questions on various specialities and series. This year it was on Michael Morpurgo, Book Awards, Ghost Stories, Crime Detective Series, Chocolate and the Percy Jackson series.
‘Our students had all been reading novels from the series, pooling their knowledge and reviewing the books for the last couple of months in preparation for the quiz, on the day they conducted themselves superbly and are already planning their teams for next year. Congratulations to Zoe Bezzina, Joseph Curry and Abbey-Leigh Hopkins who all won quick fire spot prizes.’
