Just a quick reminder that a Race Night is being held this Saturday to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. It is the latest in a series of fund raising initiatives carried out at Brooke Weston to show support for a colleague who is battling leukaemia.
Groundsman Paul Twamley is organising many of the events, including the Race Night, and he is hoping that lots of students, staff and families will show their support on Saturday.
He said: ‘The race night should be a really fun event. It is at the Irish Centre in Patrick Road, Corby. It begins at 19:30 with the first race starting at 20:00. There will be eight races and a raffle with prizes kindly donated by local Corby businesses plus friends and colleagues at Brooke Weston. People can get tickets from me prior to the event, or pay a £2 admission fee on the door for those aged 16 and over. Under 18s are welcome but they won't be able to place bets on the races.’
Paul is hoping to raise £4,000 for the charity and he is already more than halfway to his target after mufti day money and funds from the Christmas market were donated. Further events includes a bag pack at Tesco’s and the final, and most ambitious one will be when Paul runs the London Marathon. A coach-load of supporters from Brooke Weston will travel to the capital in April to see Paul cross the finish line.
He said: ‘Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, especially to the businesses who have given some great raffle prizes for Saturday night. There is a still quite a way to go before we hit the fund-raising target so I hope as many people as possible can attend the Race Night as it is raising generating cash for such a good cause.’
