Congratulations to our young sports teams for their success in the recent School Games at Kettering Leisure Village, with teams clinching first, second and third places.
The Year 7 football squad won their competition while the Year 8 girls came second in volleyball and the Year 7 basketball squad gained the bronze position. In addition the Year 8 boys won bronze in the sportshall athletics and there was another bronze for the Year 7 and 8 boy rowers.
The School Games have been held at Kettering Leisure Village with teams from across the county taking part in a variety of events. Our victorious football team won all four of their matches in the event, scoring 22 goals overall and conceding only five.
Head of PE, Mr Shorrock said: ‘The footballers are a very talented bunch and a good all-round team. We have had a lot of matches this year and they have won all their qualifying matches and all the matches in the county championships so they are completely unbeaten. They also are qualifying to represent Northamptonshire in the Midlands championships at Nottingham University on April 5.’
The Year 8 girls attained silver in the volleyball event. Ms Warman said: ‘They were outstanding in all their games and they took the final for the gold medal down to the fifth set and lost by just three points. They were really chuffed when they received their medals and their success is down to great teamwork and communication.’
Finally the Year 7 basketball team were celebrating their success: Mr Shorrock said: ‘They won two out of their four matches. They had to win the last match to get the bronze and they scored 11-10 against Wrenn school. They are a great team, they never gave in even when they were 10 – 0 down to NSB who are one of the best teams in the country and we won the second half of our match against them 11-10. Our team have only been playing together for a short time so I am confident that in Year 8 they continue developing into a top class squad.’
