Year 7 student Emily Brown has made a very impressive model of a medieval village for her history homework. The model features a motte and bailey castle with drawbridge and moat overlooking wattle and daub houses. The entire model is surrounded by a fortified fence made from hundreds of sticks that were each individually cut to form a pointed defensive barrier. Other features include an open storage barn with a step ladder plus a tiny cart in the centre of the village.
The model is made from polystyrene, modroc and hundreds of lolly sticks and matchsticks. Emily said: ‘We were studying the Middle Ages so I did a model of village life back then. It took me a couple of weeks to do as every day after I got back from school I did a little bit. I like the castle as it is raised so it is more important than the rest of the village. I like lots of different art and crafts and I have made models for other school projects before but this one was quite fiddly.’
