Sports teacher Mr Clasper has custom built a touring bike for keen cyclist Mr Rowbowtham. The 20-gear carbon fibre and aluminium frame is painted in a classic Bianchi green celeste. It just took a couple of hours to build but Mr Clasper had to source all the specialist components separately.
Mr Rowbotham saw the bike for the first time at the handover and he was delighted: ‘I have always been a keen cyclist and, as well as belonging to a local cycle club, I go on long distance rides with my son when we cycle for weeks at a time. The last one we did was around all the islands of the Outer Hebrides.’
Mr Clasper said: ‘It took a couple of weeks to build because the frames that were sent were either wrong or damaged, so it took until the fourth frame until it was perfect. I can build a bike for about half the price that they are generally retailed for. It is a carbon fibre and aluminium frame with carbon fibre handlebars and 23mm tyres. It is designed for touring and has reversible pedals for use both with cleats and normal shoes. The key to building a good bike is to match it to the owner’s size and use the best quality components for the budget.’
