Congratulations to Mr Shaun Strydom who has just completed his Master’s degree in Education, Leadership and Management. It proved helpful and positive as his studies were directly relevant to his career as he took on more leadership responsibilities at Brooke Weston.
As well as teaching ICT, Mr Strydom is also Director of KS3 and works alongside the KS3 co-ordinators to track and monitor progress and redevelop the curriculum.
He said: ‘The first year was an introduction but the second year, when I specialised in leadership and management, came with such perfect timing because it directly linked into what I was doing in the school. There was a lot of self-evaluation, looking at what worked and what didn’t, and now that I am getting an opportunity to work across the school I am starting to see the broader picture. Reading about it prepared me for being a part of it.’
Mr Strydom had to complete three written assignments and a larger dissertation for each year of his course, which was carried out totally online with the Open University: ‘It was obviously a lot of hard work, it took a long time and basically I have had no holiday for the past three years. It is worth it when you get to the end but you have to pick the right course and really look at what is going to work for you. The only thing that got me through was that I could see relevant links to what I was doing at school and I am very grateful for the support I got from colleagues at Brooke Weston throughout.’
