Students listened to writing tips and advice from award-winning author Sally Nicholls who visited Northampton recently. Sally, who has published a short story and four books, spoke about her writing career and also answered questions during the presentation at the Learning Resource Centre in Northampton.
Student Julienne Padayachy said: ‘My favourite book is “Close Your Pretty Eyes” about a girl called Olivia. She has been through about 16 different foster placements and she thinks she’s a witch or haunted. I like the book, it just engages you and you don’t really want to put it down.’
Librarian Mrs Adams said: ‘Sally gave a really engaging and animated talk about her ideas and her writing style. The audience also played a game in which we were all a character living during the time of the plague, and had to make life decisions about what to do next based on things happening around us. Sometimes our fate was decided with a roll of a die. It really grounded you in the way of life at the time. Sally knew a lot about the era due to her preparation for her book “All Fall Down." She was very friendly and personable, and happy to give autographs and pose for photos after the session.’
