Trainee teachers Grace Jenkins, Roisin Fernando and Ben Johnson will be offering after-school catch-up maths sessions for KS3 students who would like extra help. They said: ‘It is aimed at those students who haven’t made the progress that they are supposed to. we thought we would put on an evening session so if they are struggling in class they can come along and we can cover any maths topic that they are having problems with; it doesn’t have to be what they are doing in class at the time.’
The sessions will run on Mondays from 16:15 to 17:00 in the maths classrooms until the end of term. Ms Jenkins Ms Fernando and Mr Johnson are part of this year’s cohort of teachers who are training under the School Direct programme, undertaking both school and university based training leading to a PGCE qualification.
‘It is about increasing their confidence, expanding their skills and answering questions that they may not feel confident asking in the classroom. We can also offer support if they want to complete their online work on their My Maths accounts.’
