Four of Brooke Weston's top mathematicians took part in the regional final of the Senior Team Mathematics Challenge. Tasks included a group round where the team worked together to answer as many questions possible in the allowed time; a mathematical cross-number with two members of the team working on the across clues and two on the down plus a relay where answers from one question feed in to the next.
The three-hour event, which was held at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, attracted 30 teams from local schools and colleges. It was organised by the Further Mathematics Support Programme and the UK Mathematics Trust.
The aim of the competition was to provide a stimulating and enjoyable challenge for 16-19 year-old mathematics students by focusing on problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. The STMC is now in its 7th year and attracts over 1000 teams from schools and colleges from around the UK.
