Students took part in creative workshops as an introduction to the ‘Get Involved’ weekly classes that are starting at the Core next week. Students were able to choose between street dance, musical theatre, animation and drama and they were given practical and fun tasks in the 45-minute taster sessions by facilitators Leah Waterfield, Phia O’Keefe, Andy Ralston and Lisa Byrne.
Teacher Miss Bailey said: ‘I am really pleased with attendance because about 40 students have come along. The sessions highlight some of the really creative work that is going on at the Core and the opportunities these present for our students.’
Afterwards Lisa Byrne said: ‘It was a really lovely afternoon, the young people were great to work with, all bringing a wonderful energy and enthusiasm and they all seemed to enjoy it. We have already had one of the students book for the term since we delivered the workshops yesterday evening, which is really encouraging. It wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the Brooke Weston Performing Arts Department and a particular thanks must go to Miss Bailey for organising and gathering so much interest.’
This term’s weekly programme includes Moves Street Dance, with classes for ages 8 to 12, and 12 upwards, led by Leah Waterfield, a dance graduate with her own dance company in Kettering.

This term’s Clicks Media group, open to ages 10 to 16, will be working on digital animation, with Andy Ralston and Andy Eathorne, film-makers and digital artists who have collaborated on an exciting range of projects around the county.
