This week in Maths Year 7 and 8 students have been studying how sun-dials work and how to make them. The students spent three lessons considering the factors that affect the position of the sun, including the time of year and position on the surface of the Earth.
They then constructed their own sun-dial and were able to take them outside and read the time. During the process they learnt several mathematical skills, such as reading graphs, negative numbers, proportion, angles and constructions.
