Year 9 students Ryan Hendry and Tareeq Manji have been selected to play for the East Northants rugby squad after recent trials. The boys, who both play in the Kettering RFC U-15 team have already played a couple of matches for East Northants and are training for a tournament in few week’s time.
Ryan has been playing for about six years while Tareeq is a relative newcomer to the sport: ‘I only started a year ago and joined the club at Kettering. I like the physicality of the sport. For our training sessions we do about half an hour of fitness, then some back moves, a bit of tag rugby then go into a full contact session. We train at both Kettering and Wellingborough and I am looking to play more matches for East Northants.’
Ryan said: ‘I have been playing rugby since I was 7 and have always played with Kettering. I started playing tag rugby and then yoiu build up to the contact version. We have been playing proper rules on a full size pitch and building up the times for the last two years. I like playing in a team and I enjoy tackling and competing against lots of different people.’
