Year 7 students met rugby star Manu Tuilagi and took part in a half-time goal kicking challenge in front of a capacity crowd of 20,000 at Leicester Tigers’ ground.
Our Year 7 players were there to watch the home team beat Sale Sharks with an impressive score of 48-10 at Welford Road and for many, it was the first time they had seen a live premiership match.
They were accompanied by sports teacher Mr Clasper who said: ‘We met Manu Tualagi and he signed everybody’s shirts, that was awesome. At half time we were invited onto the pitch to take part in a drop goal competition. We had a minute to score as many drop goals from outside the 22 as possible. The leading school got nine weeks ago but they were all 14,15 and 16 years old. We took Year 7s and they got three. We were there for 10 minutes on the pitch and had photos taken and walked around the pitch and waved to the capacity crowd of 20-odd thousand. For most of them it was the first time they had seen a professional match.’
