Sixth Formers toured Corby swimming pool learning about their health and safety procedures. It demonstrated how safety legislation is put into place at sports venues, a topic they have been studying in BTEC sport.
The 10 students were accompanied by Mr Clasper who said: ‘We had an initial presentation by the manager, Liz Hudson, then Dave, a facility techician, showed us the plant room and filtration system under the swimming pool. He spoke about all the things he does on a daily basis that involves legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, and substances hazardous to health and details of personal protection. He was showing us the safety precautions that would be taken in the event of a chemical spill or incident.’
Student Colin Finnegan donned a protective suit used by pool technicians when handling hazardous chemicals during the trip which lasted two and a half hours. Further visits have been scheduled to Leicester City Football Club and Oval Park the training ground of Tigers rugby football team.
