Head of Maths Ms Gerard is looking to incorporate different approaches into her work and, with a combined love of maths and PE, that manifests in her kinaesthetic style of teaching, (combining movement and learning). Ms Gerard has already been identifying goals for her department including updating the wall displays and optimising maths grades throughout the spectrum.
She is now in her 21st year of teaching and has had experience in many roles including Head of Department, Head of Sixth Form and Head of Year and has been involved in an advanced skills role coaching and mentoring colleagues. She is looking forward to working alongside students and staff at Brooke Weston and has been made to feel welcome.
‘I have always loved maths, and PE and that dictates how I teach because I am quite kinaesthetic. I like to incorporate different approaches into my classroom practice to keep things fresh. My Year 8 tutor group have been fantastically helpful and and the staff in my department have all been really supportive, especially when it comes to implementing some new strategies. I wanted to come to Brooke Weston as I heard what a fantastic school it was, so I am really looking forward to the challenges and rewards of this role.’
