Design Technology technician Mr John Gilligan has been presented with a personalised picture as he retires after 13 years in the job. The Head of DT, Mr Browne, drew the artwork framed by messages of support and thanks from his colleagues in the department. It depicts Mr Gilligan leaving school in a train, a fitting tribute as he is now planning to spend his retirement on practical projects, including his model railway collection.
His interest in technical skills began with Meccano and model railways as a boy. One of his first jobs was as an apprentice making car bodies at a pressed steel plant and he has since worked as an aircraft technician in the Royal Air Force. Since joining Brooke Weston Mr Gilligan has turned his practical skills to myriad tasks, helping students and staff alike.
He said: ‘I have enjoyed working with the teachers, giving them advice and support. No two days are the same as there are all sorts of things I do for the students. Even when they are doing the same project they all need support with different aspects. This picture is absolutely fantastic. I am planning to spend more time working with model railways as I am a member of Kettering and District Model Railway Club. I do enjoy mackling and making stuff and I am happy to do it for people.’
