Former student Sarah-Kay Noble visited to talk to Sixth Formers about career paths with Deloitte, one of the world’s largest professional service firms. Sarah-Kay left Brooke Weston in 2004 having attained 19 GCSEs and 5 A Levels. Since then she has gained two law degrees, one in English and the other in French, studying in London and Paris. She then did a Masters in Intellectual Property Law and is now studying to be a chartered accountant.
She became interested in restructuring services after seeing the work involved first hand with her former employer, Habitat. Now she sits within the restructuring team at Deloitte, working with businesses that are underperforming on turnarounds and improvement or else guiding them through the process of insolvency. Sarah-Kay spoke in both of the Sixth Form assemblies and met with students who were interested in learning more about the opportunities with Deloitte.
Sarah-Kay said: ‘Deloitte is a professional service firm, with service lines specialising in Audit, Tax, Corporate Finance and Consultancy. Deloitte has a huge graduate intake every year but has also started targeting students earlier. There are two schemes available to school leavers, one is an alternative to university so that people join straight from school and study for professional qualifications. Deloitte sends them to college to study for qualifications in for example chartered accountancy or chartered tax.
'The other route is a complement to university, where students can work for Deloitte during a gap year before university for 7 months, get some work experience and get a head start with professional qualifications. Students can also join again in the summer holidays whilst at university in order to gain further work experience. This scheme allows students to fast track through the initial stages of the graduate application process. Deloitte is a fantastic firm that is flexible and provides great support throughout your career. If you are willing to work hard, there are endless opportunities to get to wherever you want to be with Deloitte.’
