Nine students have gone through to the next round of the School Games, after winning a heat that took place at Brooke Weston. The team, comprising Annabelle Cook, Stacey Barrett, Chloe Hearne, Freya Marlow, Matthew Ellis, Nashane Pitt, Joe Hardy, George Snaith and Harrison Barnes competed in a variety of events, including running races and standing long jumps. They won the Corby and Thrapston area title after competing against The King John School, Thrapston and will now represent the area at a county event in March at Northampton.
The students, from Year 8, were given a certificate to commemorate their involvement in the Games, which is sponsored by Sainsbury’s and aims to get schools across the country competing at inter-school, inter-county and inter-regional events.
Teacher Mrs Bryan said: ‘They did various relays which were so many lengths of the sports hall and did some individual races and other events, such as standing long jumps and speed bounce, where they had to jump over a ridged map as quickly as possibly and Freya clocked up 72 in 30 seconds, so they all did really well and put a lot of effort in.’
