The Year 8 football squad have had a flying start to their county cup hopes for this year, beating Weston Favell Academy 5 – 0 in their first game. Shae Gilsenan, Jevoni Cousins, Pino Geranio, Ian Marshall and Dylan Clark all scored. There is a large squad of keen players, but with a rolling substitution strategy in place, everyone had some time on the pitch.
Mr Gillespie said: ‘They have good teamwork, everyone played their part, understood what their role was and just got on with it. We had quite a big squad and I tried to use everyone as evenly as possible. We were two-nil up at half time and managed to secure the match with some good goals in the second half.’
The boys train for at least an hour after school every week, playing matches and practising core skills. They are now gearing up for their next county cup match, a quarter final against Northampton School for Boys, before taking part in the Kettering and Corby district league after Christmas.
