Year 11 footballers Connor Kennedy and Liam Marshall were both selected for a county Under-15s team that has won a shield after beating opposition from three other counties.
Young players from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire competed for the Pat Smith Shield in the Midland Counties Football Federation competition and Connor and Liam were part of the winning team.
About 80 people were trialled for the Inter-County Under-15 team and both Connor and Liam won places. Liam was team captain and so he has been allowed to retain the shield, which was last won by Northants in 2004.
The duo and their team-mates had to get through the group stage, quarter and semi-finals before beating Staffordshire 3 -1 in the final. Liam has previously played for Leicester City Under 16s and hopes to secure a place in the junior ranks of a top league club in the near future; he plays centre back and left back positions.
Connor has played for a Kettering Town Under 18 side and is also also hoping to attend trials with a well-known premier league club. The boys' team was presented with the Pat Smith Shield immediately after their winning match. It will be displayed in the trophy cabinet.
