Year 7 students Milly Simpson and Bronwyn Clark were both on the winners’ podium during a recent swimming gala. The pair are members of Corby Swimming Club and spend many hours a week training, both in the pool and on land to keep their fitness levels up.
The girls took part in the Under-12 categories of the All Round Club Championships where swimmers competed in four separate 100m races of breaststroke, backstroke, front crawl and butterfly and those with the best combined score won. Bronwyn got second place while Milly was awarded third.
As well as being classmates they often travel across the region to take part in the same swimming galas, with Bronwyn recently spending nine hours at a recent competition in Rugby.
She said: ‘Every Saturday for the last few weeks I have been doing swimming galas and have got first and seconds.’ Milly added: ‘Competing in galas is good because you are with your friends and you get to cheer them on. This weekend we had to stand on the little plastic podium, we were quite pleased because it was quite an important gala but we were quite embarrassed because you had to shake hands!’
