Students and staff enjoyed successful residential trips to France and Spain this summer, encompassing adventure, culture and sight-seeing. A highlight was when the Brooke Weston students were televised as they celebrated on the streets of Madrid during the Euro 2012 homecoming parade.
Three groups left Brooke Weston on Monday 2nd July, with two heading to Spain; one on a cultural trip to Madrid and the other to an activities holiday on the Costa Brava. The third was the Year 8s who travelled to Paris.
There they saw the Mona Lisa, toured Versailles, visited Sacre Coeur, climbed the Eiffel Tower and had a day trip to Eurodisney. Other highlights included evening sports sessions and a boat trip on the Seine.
Miss Bailey said: ‘It was fantastic, the students were amazing and so well behaved. The boat ride was beautiful and the views from the Eiffel Tower were stunning so it was a great trip.'
The Costa Brava residential included water-based activities like snorkelling, sailing, raft-building and kayaking. Staff and students also visited the Lloret water park and made the most of the fantastic weather. Teacher Ms Bianco said: 'We all enjoyed our time out there. Each group had their own highlights, but a couple of them seem to revolve around sailing and they all coped admirably. With the sunshine on our backs, and the traditional Spanish food in our systems, we were all sad to leave and return to sunny old England.'
The Madrid residential included touring the Prado art gallery and a trip to Toledo. Mr Browne said: ‘The day we arrived was when the victorious Euro 2012 team had their homecoming parade on the streets of Madrid. We waited for an hour and a half to see the trophy and team and had a great location in the Gran Via and even appeared on television when the camera panned around! Other highlights were trips to the Bernabeu stadium and Warner Brothers theme park.’
Mr Mark Willimott said: ‘Planned residentials next year include Paris, active trips to the Ardennes and Costa Brava in Spain, a cultural trip to Prague, Berlin, Madrid and a coach trip to the Black Forest region and Strasbourg. Students will be receiving a letter in week eight to let them know when the sign up will be and brochures will be distributed early next academic year.’
