Students from Year 9 will ‘learn to change the world’ as they learn more about, and promote international charity causes. They will research charitable organisations and formulate eight-minute group presentations that they will deliver to their peers. The best one from each tutor group will promote their chosen cause in assemblies at the end of this term. An online vote will take place to see which charity students would most like to support, with forthcoming mufti money being earmarked for donation.
The scheme will be overseen by Head of Geography, Mr Bidwell, who said: ‘We want our students to become more socially aware, both of geography and the world around them. We will be looking predominantly at overseas charities although there are those such as Comic Relief and Sport Relief that operate in the UK. There is a heavy focus on developmental and environmental charities and we have also arranged a guest speaker to come and talk about Oxfam’s global work.’
