Year 9 students are making a range of pies that will be sold to the audience at a forthcoming production of Sweeney Todd. They created and tasted samples and will be making any necessary tweaks to the recipe before the event which is currently in rehearsal.
The students have also made lemonade, posters and menus and a video documenting their process and progress. There will be something for everyone with savoury pies including chicken and mushroom, chicken and leek and beef and potato while the apple, blackberry and apple and forest fruit versions should cater for those with a sweeter tooth.
The students have each chosen which task to carry out and the pies are created on a production line with some responsible for making the pastry while others do the filling and assembly. They have also carried out market research to determine the final price of the pies.
Food technology teacher Miss Letchet said: ‘We are baking and analysing the pies to if we need to make any changes before the event. It is all going well and the classes have all chosen the jobs themselves depending on their abilities. This half of the group has been very well organised by Rachel Beasant who is producing promotional posters.’
