Brooke Weston carried out its own EU referendum in tandem with the national debate and the results were announced today. The Modern Foreign Languages department introduced the project with Sixth Formers Mickey Wernick and Seth Goddard from the Debating Society presenting both sides of the Remain/Leave argument during successive assemblies.
Students and staff voted online and the BW referendum results were even tighter than the national one with 49.67% opting to Remain while the Leave campaign gained 50.33% of the vote. More than 750 people voted and number of Year 11 and 13 students taking part was inevitably very low as they are currently on exam leave.
Mrs Hibberd said: ‘It has been an exciting project and I am pleased to see that our students are so politically involved. This has provoked a great deal of discussion and debate.’
