Congratulations to Year 7 students Evie Walker and Jasmine Clifton who got first and third places respectively in the Spelling Bee Regional Final. Both will go through to the National Finals which will be held in Cambridge on 1 July. This is the third year in a row that Brooke Weston students have won the East Midlands Regional Final which was held at Corby Business Academy.
Evie and Jasmine battled it out in the Spanish category while Emil Joby competed in German. The trio were among just 80 students who made it through to the heats from a total of 5650 students from across the region who took part. They each had to learn 150 words for the regional final and now Evie and Jasmine will have another 50 words to master on top of that. The girls have been staying on every Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also coming in earlier in the mornings to practice. They have been coached by Year 8 student Amelia Sulch who won the regional heats and represented Brooke Weston in the final last year.
Teacher Miss Prats said: 'It was a really hard-fought competition and our students did so well. They have worked really hard memorising the different word lists and I am very proud of their achievements. Thanks also to Amelia who has been a superstart helping them to practice. Evie and Jasmine are now hard at work preparing for the nationals so we wish them all the best and look forward to supporting them on the day.'
